Cortland County SWCD was fortunate to receive funding to inventory trees and develop a Community Forest Management Plan for Dwyer Park. Work on the project is expected to begin with the tree inventory this winter, and will progress into the spring. Funding was secured through the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation from the 2019 Urban and Community Forestry Grants Program – Round 15.

Dwyer Park is a wonderful resource for our community. It provides an excellent venue for all nature lovers and recreation pursuers providing a safe place for people to enjoy the outdoors. The results of this project will help us and Cortland County better understand the composition, structure, and maintenance needs of the community forest in Dwyer Memorial Park.; allocate resources; develop risk management strategies; and promote the ecosystem benefits the trees in Dwyer Memorial Park provide to the local community.

Stay tuned for public outreach and stakeholder input opportunities as the project progresses.
