COMMUNITY

Cortland County SWCD provides technical and resource information relating to soils, water quality, erosion and sediment control, wellhead protection, streambank/roadbank stabilization, drainage, and storm water management to communities, municipalities and other units of government.

SWCD provides services to communities related to natural resource management that range from education and planning, to design and engineering, to grant writing and administration.  SWCD also provides hydroseeding services to control erosion and stabilize critical areas.

SWCD maintains an extensive library of text books, journals, and reports.  These technical references contain useful and informative natural resource, water quality, and agricultural information.  Many of these provide historical and statistical data.  Numerous brochures and other literature are available to help Cortland County residents understand and protect their water resources.  The Geographic Information System (GIS) that is maintained and utilized by SWCD contains a wealth of useful information that can be transmitted and utilized electronically including soils, hydrography, topography, and water quality.

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE

Contact SWCD for assistance with drainage, water and stormwater management, road ditch management, flooding, erosion control, understanding natural resources and the impacts of development, water quality information and interpretations, invasive species, streambank stabilization, ponds, permits, etc.  Our team of technical staff can assist with a variety of natural resource issues.  If we can’t, it’s likely we know someone who can and will direct you!

SWCD has a strong track record of securing finacial resources t assist communities with their natural resource management objectives and needs.  Contacting SWCD is first step to identifying potential grants and funding to support community and infrastructure related projects that also provide conservation and environmental improvement benefits.
