SWCD was recognized by the New York Association of Conservation Districts (NYACD) with multiple awards at its annual conference last week. These included the District Diversity award which recognizes conservation district efforts to improve or continue conservation in a wide array of manners and areas. SWCD was commended for outstanding projects over the last year and for representing conservation goals and ethics so very well. In addition to the Diversity award, Cortland County received the following awards: Eugene Wright, chairperson and Grange representative, received the Special Service award for his outstanding leadership and fifty-four years of service to conservation on the SWCD Board; First Place Agricultural Environmental Management Story Media award was presented for the district’s article on state grants and local farm efforts to improve environmental management, First Place Education Story Media award was presented for the district’s article on its annual Conservation Field Days program, and Don Fisher, C-OFOKLA and Little York Lake representative received an Appreciation award as an outstanding volunteer and for his efforts to promote and implement conservation around the lake.
